Today we had a meet and greet with about half the club, at Coldwater Springs in Minneapolis. The National Park Service led the girls from station to station where they:
Dipped for, and identified pond life. They learned what to look for when identifying good or poor water quality.
Calculated the amount of water flowing from Coldwater Spring (55,000 gallons per day!), and tested it's turbidity (the clarity of the water).
Lastly, the girls got geocache devices and found a few checkpoints through the woods, on the way to the Mississippi River. Once there, they checked the turbidity of the Mississippi.
What a great day! We're excited for next months "first official" meeting! It'll be full of surprises :)
